President

Kane Tse was elected President of the Health Sciences Association of BC, representing over 20,000 health and social service professionals in June 2021, and re-elected in April 2023. As a member of HSA he worked as an Assistant Bioinformatics Coordinator at the BC Cancer Agency, leading a team who perform analysis on DNA sequence data.

Kane has a long history of union activism and served as a general steward, assistant chief steward, and chief steward. He was also a member of HSA's 2020 Core Member Engagement Team.

Raised in Calgary, Kane completed his degree in Biochemistry and Computer Science at the University of Calgary before moving to California to complete a genomics internship at Stanford. He initially moved to Vancouver to work at a biotech startup before joing the BC Cancer Agency staff in 2003 as a computational biologist.

Outside of work, Kane enjoys spending time with his wife and two adult children, photography, hiking, and volunteering with his local residents’ association.

Tse succeeded Val Avery, who served as HSA President from 2013 through 2021.
