Early Intervention Program (EIP)

What Is EIP?

EIP is a collaborative and confidential Early Intervention Program that assists employees who are ill or injured to effectively return to work in a safe and timely manner.

How Does The Program Work?

If you are a regular employee in the Community, Facilities or Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association and have been ill or injured for 6 scheduled shifts or 10 calendar days, whichever occurs first, your employer will refer your name to the Early Intervention Coordinator (EIC) at the Healthcare Benefit Trust (HBT).
If you are a regular full- or part-time employee in the Nurses' Bargaining Association and have been ill or injured for 5 consecutive scheduled working days/
shifts, your employer will refer your name to the EIC at HBT.

Who Is The EIC?

The Early Intervention Coordinator is a member of the EIP team at HBT. The EIC will contact you, explain the program, assess your need for EIP and provide you with an Occupational Fitness Assessment (OFA) form to be completed by you and your physician and returned to the Medical Case Manager (MCM).

Who Is The MCM?

The Medical Case Manager is a Registered Nurse and/or Occupational Health Nurse and member of the EIP team at HBT. The MCM will review your confidential medical forms, refer you to medical service providers if needed, and develop a customized return to work plan that will accommodate your limitations and capabilities.

What Am I Required To Do?

This program is included in your collective agreement. You are strongly encouraged to work with your healthcare provider, your union, your employer and the EIP team at HBT to facilitate your early return to work. Employees may self-refer to EIP.

How Does My Union Assist Me?

Your union acts as your representative on the EIP team and advocates on your behalf for your successful early return to work or accommodation plan.

Is My Privacy Protected?

HBT is an independent service provider that is bound by the BC Personal Information Protection Act (PIPA). Medical information provided to the EIP Team at HBT is considered strictly confidential.
