Greetings Region 9 members:
My name is Janice Morrison, and I have been a member of HSA since I began my Physiotherapy career at Kootenay Lake Hospital thirty years ago. My history of service to our union includes multiple roles, from Assistant Steward and Regional Director to Secretary/Treasurer and Vice-President. And now I am putting my name forward again to run for Region 9 Director.
The next few years will bring significant challenges and opportunities for our union, including electing a new President; and with the current Regional Director elections we could see several new directors at the table. We are also nearing the end of the current collective agreement, and now, in our fiftieth year as a strong and respected organization, we need to begin developing a strategic plan for the future. It is for these reasons that I feel having seasoned, experienced members at the helm is important, and I am asking for your support.
I believe I bring the experience and knowledge of HSA’s internal workings and structures, along with its relationships with external stakeholders, both within and outside the union movement. When I previously co-chaired the HSPBA bargaining team, we accomplished some great work, but there is more that needs to be done for our members.
As we learn new “Covid” ways to engage our members, we need a Board of Directors committed to good governance and ethical leadership. In this past year, our members have shown up every day for our clients, colleagues, families and friends. I want to ensure HSA keeps showing up for you, its members. I look forward to the opportunity of working with you, the members, in continuing to make HSA a relevant and responsive union.
