2021 Summer Institute for Union Women

Summer Institute for Union Women – details released for August 5 - 7, 2021 Virtual Conference

Details for the 2021 Summer Institute for Union Women in August have just been released, and HSA will support members to participate by reimbursing registration costs. Scholarships are also available for 11 members to cover registration and wage replacement for the three-day school on a first-come, first-served basis.

This year, the Summer Institute for Union Women is hosted by the US-based United Association for Labor Education (UALE), which is bringing together four regional “women’s summer schools” across North America for educational workshops that will provide you with skills and tools you need to go back to your workplace pumped up and ready to lead. This institute is a space for union and community women, Trans, Two-Spirit, and Intersex people in the workforce.

The Summer Institute for Union Women brings together women from unions, worker centres, and community organizations to work together to encourage each other to step up into leadership in their organizations. It is a space for personal growth and reflection designed to ignite the empowerment of labour and labour-minded women.

Core courses being offered are:

  • Unionism 101
  • Advanced Leadership
  • Organizing 101
  • Effective Communications
  • Racial Equity in our Movement

In addition to the core courses, there will be other workshops (subject to change). For a full list and tentative schedule, please visit the website here: https://uale.org/womens-schools/

Registration is now open.

Once registered, members can expect to choose their core courses and other workshops the week of July 26th

HSA will reimburse members’ registration fee with valid receipt. Although HSA will cover the registration costs for all members who register, HSA is limited to covering wages for 11 participants. (10 Education scholarships, and one scholarship funded by the union’s Political Action Fund.)

Because of the short timelines associated with registration, scholarships to cover wages will be granted on a first-come, first-served basis.

WAGE REPLACEMENT WILL BE PAID ONLY FOR THE FIRST 11 MEMBERS TO APPLY FOR A SCHOLARSHIP.
