Workshop Description:
Curriculum for Change: Effectively Responding to the Needs of Sex Workers will equip HSABC members with the knowledge, skills, and attitudes to confidently support sex workers. The afternoon session will focus on human trafficking and will provide the knowledge to provide ethical and informed responses.

In this workshop, participants will:

  • Learn about sex work and human trafficking and the difference between the two,
  • Gain tools and resources to be allies to sex workers,
  • Explore the prevalence of human trafficking both locally and globally.

Facilitators Biography: 
Kerry Porth 
is a Community Developer with Living in Community. She is also a former sex worker and current sex worker rights activist. Kerry has years of experience working with marginalized people and grassroots movements in Vancouver’s Downtown Eastside to effect social change through strategic litigation, public education and advocacy. She has worked on research projects relating to the sex industry and regularly lectures at colleges and universities. Her expertise relates to sex work activism, training, policy, law, and governance. Kerry holds a Bachelor of Arts from Simon Fraser University.
 
Alison Clancey is a Community Developer and Training Lead with Living in Community. Alison has years of experience providing front-line services to sex workers. Alison's interest areas are sex work policy, policing and sex work, and critical anti-trafficking discourse. Alison holds a Bachelor of Arts from Memorial University of Newfoundland and Bachelor's and Masters of Social Work from the University of Victoria.

This workshop is open to all HSA members. Space is limited.
