In response to member interest in learning more about Palestine and Israel, HSA is offering a workshop series in June to provide information and an opportunity to learn about the history of the region and gain a better understanding of how antisemitism and Islamophobia are present in our society.

These workshops are intended to provide a variety of views and perspectives for individuals to consider in addition to their own research and personal experiences.

June 11th“Conflict”? 7 – 9 pm Pacific Time

Presented by Professor Dan Aviv, this workshop will explore the historical foundations and evolving meanings of four key concepts essential for understanding Israel-Palestine: Zionism, Nakba, Occupation, and Terrorism. Through critical examination and interrogation of these terms, participants will gain some insight into the complex forces that have shaped a century of struggle in the region. The workshop will trace connections between European colonialism, antisemitism, nationalism, religious identity, and resistance movements that continue to influence events on the ground and in our feeds.

Dr. Dan Aviv is co-founder and Principal of ADRABA with over 25 years of experience in teaching and learning. A respected educator and thought leader with a Ph.D. from Hebrew University of Jerusalem, Dr. Aviv has published extensively on Jewish identification, education, and cultural dynamics. Dr. Aviv brings scholarly insight to discussions on Israel-Palestine through his academic work and public engagement, including his research on Zionism and tourism experiences in North American educational contexts.
