Supervisors were among the founding members of HSA when the union was first organized, and HSA remains unique for the significant number of supervisors included in its membership. This workshop is designed for HSA supervisors who want to learn more about your dual role as union members and supervisors in the workplace.

Day one content includes:

  • Collective agreements and the grievance process
  • Classifications
  • The Enhanced Disability Management (EDMP) and Early Intervention Programs (EIP)
  • Bullying and harassment
  • Discipline and investigations

Day two will cover the supervisor role in Occupational Health and Safety (OH&S) investigations, taught by a facilitator from the BC Federation of Labor.

This workshop will be offered twice on the following dates.

March 31 & April 1, 2026 virtual via Zoom

or

May 11 & 12, 2026 at the HSA office in New Westminster
Time: 9am to 4:30pm PST, one hour for lunch

This workshop is open to HSA members employed in roles with regular ongoing responsibilities supervising other union members. Space is limited, and priority will be given to supervisors who have not previously taken the workshop.

Quotes from past participants:

“It was a welcoming and inclusive atmosphere. Well laid out and a variety of ways information was presented and taught. Honestly one of the best Zoom workshops I’ve done in a long time.”

“The resources and support for supervisors, and the reminder of the role the union plays and that they are there for the supervisors as well as the employees under our supervision.”

“I wish I could have taken this sooner! The review of all the facets that are relevant (EDMP, grievance process, etc.), including the printed materials is so appreciated. I also liked the presentation on classifications.”

Participants must attend the full workshop. If you are unable to attend the entire workshop, please review our workshop schedule to find an event where you can participate to the fullest.

As per HSA policy, dependent care costs and wage replacement will be provided. Participants must request time off from their employer once the union confirms workshop acceptance. If the workshop is on a scheduled workday, wage replacement will be provided. If the workshop is on a day off, participants are entitled to bank the time as paid union leave to be taken at a later date.
