**The content of this workshop will be graphic, emotional, triggering, and potentially traumatizing. Trained transition house staff will be available to provide support to workshop participants.

This workshop is offered to all HSA members.

TIME:                9:00am to 4:30pm

In Kamal Dhillon’s workshop, participants will gain an understanding of why domestic violence is a workplace issue, the effects of domestic violence, and the challenges victims face when leaving.

In Anne Davis’ workshop, participants will learn how domestic violence impacts workers and workplaces, discuss the union’s role in keeping workers safe at work, practice having effective conversations with colleagues impacted by domestic violence, and develop strategies for making a difference through negotiations, member education, public awareness, and political action.

Facilitators:
Kamal Dhillon is the author of Black and Blue Sari and a newly released book, I AM KAMAL, Survivor to Thriver! In her books she describes the harrowing details of her experience of brutal domestic violence throughout her marriage – from the moment she married her husband at the age of 18 until his death 15 years later.

She is a domestic violence survivor with a horrific story of inhumane suffering, which she bravely shares with the world. Through her courageous story, this inspirational speaker exposes her personal journey of living through a horrendous string of violence and torture throughout her marriage.

Anne Davis has worked at Comox Valley Transition Society on the unceded traditional territory of the K’omoks First Nation for thirty years. She has served as Transition House Coordinator for ten years and coordinated the Comox Valley Violence Against Women Community Coordinating Committee for fifteen years. Anne is a long time HSA member and a former member of the HSA Board of Directors.

Register early, space is limited.

**Members interested in participating in this workshop are encouraged to consider the impact the content will have on them, and to consider alternative workshops on this difficult, distressing and potentially triggering or traumatizing subject matter. Trained transition house staff will be onsite to support workshop participants.
