Nominations Open for David Bland Award

The David Bland Memorial Award is awarded annually to an HSA member who has demonstrated outstanding leadership in the area of occupational health and safety and who has made a meaningful difference in the lives of their fellow HSA members.

The award was established by HSA's board of directors to honor HSA member David Bland, a vocational counsellor at Richmond Mental Health who was killed at his workplace by a former client.

Many incidents of workplace violence are preventable. David Bland’s tragic death is reminder that more needs to be done to stop workplace violence, injuries, and accidents from occurring. The memorial award is an opportunity to celebrate an HSA member who has championed positive change in occupational health and safety practices in their workplace.

To view past recipients of the award, visit the David Bland Memorial Award page.

Do you know a current HSA member who has:

  • demonstrated leadership in the area of occupational health and safety
  • served as an effective role model and advocate for other HSA members at their facility with respect to occupational health and safety issues, and
  • taken initiative on a specific local issue in order to improve the health and safety of other HSA members at their workplace

If so, please complete the application form and return it to HSA OHS at @email at the HSA office by February 29, 2024.

Nominations will be reviewed by HSA's Occupational Health and Safety Committee and the recipient will be announced at HSA's 2024 Annual Convention in May.
