Applications are now open for 2019 NUPGE scholarships
Every year, the National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE) offers six national scholarships of $1,500 each. HSA is an affiliate of NUPGE, and HSA members and their families may be eligible to participate in NUPGE's scholarship contest.
To be eligible for a scholarship, the applicant must be a member or the child/foster child or grandchild/foster grandchild of a member or retiree. The applicant must be planning to enter their first year of full-time studies at a Canadian public post-secondary institution in 2019. Scholarships may have additional requirements, as noted.
The scholarships reflect the union's pursuit of equal opportunities for all workers. An essay submission is required for entry, and winners will be selected based on the quality of the essay submitted.
The scholarships available are:
- Brian Fudge Memorial Scholarship (for students entering a field of study in health care, criminal justice, community services or policing)
- Scholarship for Indigenous Students
- Scholarship for LGBTQ2 Students
- Scholarship for Students of Colour
- Terry Fox Memorial Scholarship (for students with a disability)
- Tommy Douglas Scholarship
