Fall panel events: Remembering BC's largest political protest

Join the BC Labour Heritage Centre in its exploration of the pivotal 1983 Solidarity Movement, described as the largest political protest in BC's history.  This fall, consider attending two exciting events taking place at the Anvil Centre in New Westminster as part of the Solidarity 35 project:

Join BC's unions in annual Vancouver Pride Parade Sunday August 5

HSA members are invited to join the Multi Union Pride entry at the annual Vancouver Pride Parade Sunday August 5.

Marchers are encouraged to join the many participating unions by 1:15 p.m. at the marshalling spot on Robson Street between Burrard and Thurlow streets.

The Vancouver Pride Society brings together members of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender, Two-Spirited and Queer community, their friends, allies and supporters in celebration.

Feb. 22: Stop Pensions Theft town hall

Current legislation allows failing companies to take money allocated to workers' pensions and redistribute it to CEOs, banks, and investors. Don Davies, MP for Vancouver Kingsway and MP Scott Duvall, NDP Critic for Pensions, are hosting a community town hall in Vancouver to discuss how to protect workers' pensions from corporate theft. We hope you can attend.  

Guatemalan women’s organizations to be featured in March 2018 learning delegation led by CoDev Canada

CoDevelopment Canada (CoDev), a BC-based non-governmental organization working for social change in the Americas, is inviting interested HSA members to travel with a learning delegation to Guatemala in March 2018 to meet with some of CoDev’s partner organizations supporting women in Guatemala, who face enormous economic and social challenges.

The ten-day delegation is scheduled for March 17 to 26. Participants are responsible for their own costs, estimated at $1300 to $1570, plus airfare. Applications are open until January 30, 2018.

Canadian Nursing Week Workshop for RPNs

To celebrate Canadian Nursing Week, May 8 to 14, Health Sciences Association has partnered with the Canadian Mental Health Association to offer a new workshop specifically for HSA Registered Psychiatric Nurses.

Join us at the HSA head office in New Westminster, BC on Thursday, May 11 from 6:00 to 9:00 pm for this two-part workshop:

Working Together to Address Workplace Mental Health keynote and Awareness of Mental Health Workshop.

Core Organizer Training for HSA Members

The Health Sciences Association has partnered with Organize BC to host their interactive two-day core organizer training on March 18 & 19. We have a limited number of no-cost spaces for HSA members to attend.

This training is designed for members interested in grassroots engagement in their union activism and social change work. More information on the training curriculum is included below.

Social Justice Day Workshop: Justice and Local Politics

Educational Objective:
 
To explore the issue of social justice and some of the efforts HSA and its partners are undertaking to bring about just conditions both locally and globally. This year’s one-day workshop is February 17th from 9 am - 4 pm and will focus on the connection between local social justice movements and local politics.
 
Target Audience:
 
All members interested in social justice.
 
Workshop Goals:

Time to get your pride on!

You're invited to join with HSA and other labour unions as part of the Multi-Union Pride group in the Vancouver Pride Parade on Sunday, July 31, 2016. Arrive between 12 and 12:30 pm.
 
Marching is open to all HSA members, their families and friends.  We will meet on Thurlow Street, between Robson and Haro, by 12:15 pm at the latest. Just look for the HSA and other union flags.
