"We need to be the BC Federation of Labour – not the Downtown Vancouver Federation of Labour."

That's how Jim Sinclair, BC Fed President, opened The fourth BC Federation of Labour Regional Conference was held June 6-7 in Kimberley. He was remembering the words of a delegate to the convention that saw the Federation move from annual to biannual conventions.

Rally Thursday to support teachers

BC's labour leaders have issued a statement of solidarity with BC’s teachers, who started full-scale strike action across the province today, and are organizing a solidarity rally for Thursday, June 19.

Teachers are holding strong against the BC Liberal government’s assault on our public education system. We need to send a clear message to Christy Clark and the BC Liberals that they must respect the work of our teachers and negotiate a settlement in good faith.

Celebrating International Women's Day - Inspiring Change

HSA invites women in our union to join us for two days of sharing to celebrate International Women’s Day.  HSA is providing the opportunity for members to participate in a workshop that combines attending IWD events and in-house HSA training.

Celebrate Labour Day with BC's unions

BC's unions invite you to the Annual Labour Day Picnic Monday, September 2 at 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.at John Hendy Park at Trout Lake in Vancouver.

The famil-oriented day will feature music by Jim Byrnes, No Sinner, and Bend Sinister

By sktrain: get off at Broadway Station. The park is at 12th Avenue and Grandview Highway.

Free hot dogs, face painting , and kids' games along with community and union information booths.

Come out and celebrate unions, who brought us the weekend!

Take time to vote Tuesday May 14th

HSA members are urged to vote in the provincial election. The outcome of this election will have a profound effect on the health care and community services our members provide, as well as other public services that our families, friends and communities rely on.

Tuesday, May 14th is BC's provincial Election Day. Polls are open that day from 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. (Pacific Time).

HSA members are urged to vote in the provincial election. The outcome of this election will have a profound effect on the health care and community services our members provide, as well as other public services that our families, friends and communities rely on.

Eligible voters may vote on the general voting day, May 14, or may vote between 8:00 a.m. to 8:00 p.m. local time on any of the following advance voting days:

March 21: International Day for the Elimination of Racism

The International Day for the Elimination of Racial Discrimination, celebrated every year on March 21, was established to commemorate the day in 1960 when police opened fire and killed 69 people at a peaceful demonstration against the apartheid "pass laws" in Sharpeville, South Africa. Proclaiming the Day in 1966, the United Nations General Assembly called on the international community to redouble its efforts to eliminate all forms of racial discrimination. (Resolution 2142 (XXI))
