Nominations now open for HSA Regional Director elections; February 10 deadline
Nominations are now open for Regional Director elections in HSA Regions 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. This is an excellent opportunity for members to seek to serve on the HSA Board of Directors, contribute to the leadership of the union, and to represent the interests of other members.
To be eligible, a nominee must have been a member of HSA for at least one year immediately prior to election, and be nominated in writing by two members in the region they are seeking to represent.

HSA members look ahead to bargaining in 2022

Delegates to the HSA Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association (HSPBA) Bargaining Proposal Conference this week have developed a set of bargaining objectives to take forward into negotiations in 2022. For the past three months, HSA chapters around the province held meetings to canvass members and vote on bargaining proposals to forward to the conference. More than 1000 proposals were submitted, and delegates to this week’s meeting reviewed them to set direction for the bargaining committee.
BC Federation of Labour: Mandatory paid sick leave a milestone, but five days inadequate

Today’s paid sick leave announcement by the BC government represents a significant milestone — but still falls short of providing the coverage sick workers need, BCFED President Laird Cronk said today.
“This is an important achievement for public health and safer workplaces,” Cronk said. “But we’re disappointed that it’s only half the 10-day standard that science supports and that is the overwhelming preference of British Columbians.”

With BC entering the third state of provincial emergency of 2021, HSA is offering financial assistance to members who are being displaced from their homes due to overland flooding in Abbotsford, Merritt and Princeton.
