CSS bargaining update: Talks continue at the bargaining table; monetary proposals tabled
Your Community Social Services Bargaining Association (CSSBA) committee continues to work hard at the table to deliver renewed collective agreements that reflect your priorities.
We have met with your employers, the Community Social Services Employers' Association (CSSEA), for 50 sessions since the kickoff of bargaining. Negotiations continue to be productive, however, we know that we have a lot of difficult work ahead of us.
As mentioned in our last update on October 17, we have reached agreement on several key non-monetary improvements. As well, we tabled our proposals for monetary improvements on October 3rd to allow for your employers to review and cost our proposals.
Since our last report back, we have had five more days of bargaining for the main community social services agreement, which covers all workers in Community Living, General Services, and Indigenous Services.
A key outcome from this week is that we have reached agreement on improved bullying and harassment language, including enshrining a clear definition of “lateral violence”.
We anticipate that your employers will counter with their monetary proposals by the week of November 18. We will keep you in the loop as we continue in negotiations, with seven more days in November, two days in December, and nine days in January (if needed) scheduled.
Community Bargaining Association (CBA) different from CSSBA
Finally, we wish to clarify that recent news about Community Bargaining Association (CBA) negotiations reaching an impasse and a strike vote being planned does not involve members in the social services sector. Instead, the CBA represents workers in the community health sector. You will be notified directly if CSSBA negotiations reach an impasse and informed of any subsequent steps.
Your CSSBA committee is strong and united, and we appreciate the strong support that you have demonstrated.
In solidarity,
Your CSSBA Bargaining Committee
