Celebrating International Womens Day ... Knowing Our History -- Inspired to Change our Future

HSA invites women in our union to join us to celebrate International Womens Day.  Building on last year's success, HSA will be holding a two day workshop to celebrate International Women's Day, and learn about Women For Change on March 7 and 8, 2013 at the HSA office.

Through this workshop, HSA is providing the opportunity for members to combine IWD events and in-house HSA training.

Learn about:
• the significance of international womens day
• womens struggles and achievement
• the history of women in politics and the labour movement
• how many of the same issues continue to be relevant today as they relate to womens
• participation and leadership in the union
• Women 4 Change, part of the National Union of Provincial and Government Employees
• All Together Now campaign

A viewing of the Sundance Festival film Miss Representation is planned. The film explores how the medias misrepresentations of women have led to the underrepresentation of women in positions of power and influence.

Participants will include a diverse mix of experienced activists and members new to participating in the union who are interested in getting more involved. All participants will commit to leading one Women 4 Change presentation following the training provided in the workshop. It is expected that successful applicants will attend an evening IWD event on March 8th hosted by the Vancouver and District Labour Council; participants from out of town will be entitled to stay overnight to attend this event, but no additional wage replacement will be provided on Saturday.

Interested in this opportunity? Please apply using the on-line registration by logging into the HSA website, select ‘Member Services then ‘Event Registration from the dropdown menu.

Deadline for registration is February 21, 2013.
