HSA members working throughout the Lower Mainland received notice yesterday of a region-wide plan to consolidate diagnostic imaging services in the Lower Mainland.
In a memo circulated to staff in the Vancouver Coastal Health, Fraser Health, Provincial Health Services authorities, and Providence Health Care, Mike Nader, Executive Director of Medical Imaging, said the consolidation project is aimed at reducing the diagnostic imaging budget by 10 per cent.
-HSA is very concerned that the consolidation plan will result in reduction of services when waiting lists for diagnostic tests are already a severe bottleneck in the health care system," said HSA Executive Director of Labour Relations Maureen Headley.
HSA has struck a committee of stewards and staff to review the consolidation plan, and will be holding meetings with HSA members in the next two weeks to investigate the implications of the plan, including examining impacts on services and jobs.
