The economic crisis in BC: Developing an alternative

The Vancouver & District Labour Council Education Committee
and the Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives present a public forum and conference on the economic crisis in BC.

The public forum, Economics for Everyone, will be held Friday Jan. 30 from 7 - 9 p.m. at the Maritime Labour Centre, 1880 Triumph Street, Vancouver.

Featured speaker is Jim Stanford, Canadian Auto Workers' economist and author of Economics for Everyone.

Saturday, Jan. 31 Stanford will be joined by other panelists at a conference from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Maritime Labour Centre. Pre-registration is required for the conference. The conference agenda is as follows:

9 a.m. to 12 p.m.: How We Got Here & Debunking False Solutions - moderated by Joey Hartman, HEU and VDLC and featuring panelists:

  • Jim Stanford ... Opening reflections
  • Marjorie Griffin Cohen, Economist & Professor in Department of Political Science and Womens Studies
  • Bob Simpson, NDP MLA for Caribou North, Opposition Critic for Forests and Range & Select Standing Committee on Finance and Government Service
  • Jim Sinclair, President of the BC Federation of Labour

12:30 to 3 pm: Alternatives for the Future, moderated by Harjap Grewal, Council of Canadians and featuring panelists:

  • Andrew Jackson, Canadian Labour Congress - Provincial and federal options
  • Seth Klein, Canadian Centre for Policy Alternatives - Poverty reduction and green jobs
  • Adrienne Montani, First Call BC - Solutions for families; living wage and child care
