Election of union president open to all members in online vote; 54th Annual Convention set for April 9-11

HSA moves to one-member, one-vote election of president 

2025 will mark the first-ever election of HSA’s president to be open to all members in the union’s 54-year history. 

The election will be held April 10-11 in an online vote open to members for a 24-hour voting period. 

In February 2025, every member will be mailed voting instructions and individual voting credentials to the home postal address on file with HSA. In addition, members will be encouraged to register to vote to receive voting credentials by e-mail. 

All members are encouraged to confirm their contact information in advance of this mailing. 

The union’s constitution was changed last year, when delegates to the 2024 annual convention voted to change from a delegated election where annual convention delegates elected to represent members from across the province voted to elect the president. Under the new system, you do not have to be a convention delegate to vote for president: every members is eligible to vote for president.

Deadline for submission of resolutions to 2025 convention: January 27, 2025 

HSA members who have issues that they want to raise at convention are encouraged to participate in their local chapter (worksite) meeting to be called to propose and vote resolutions to convention setting the direction for the union. 

The deadline for submitting resolutions for consideration at the annual convention is 11:59 p.m. (PST) Monday, January 27, 2025. All resolutions must be voted on by members at local union chapter meetings before being submitted to the union office.

The deadline for receipt of resolutions in the HSA office is 11:59 p.m. (PST) on Monday, January 27, 2025. Late resolutions will not be accepted.
