Expressions of Interest: 2026 HSA Young Workers Committee
Are You 35 or Under? Join HSA’s Young Workers Committee!
HSA is now accepting applications for the 2026 Young Workers’ Committee. This group advises the union’s Board of Directors on issues important to HSA members who are 35 and under (which is the one-third of the union member population) to ensure young workers’ perspectives are heard and represented within our union.
Through participation in this group, you would also have a role in helping plan and facilitate our Annual Young Workers forum and our Young Workers Caucus at HSA’s Annual Convention. Since HSA is also an active part of the broader labour movement, there will be additional leadership opportunities that arise throughout the year related to representing our union on other young worker committees & working groups within our provincial union, the BC Federation of Labour (BCFED) and our National Union of Public and General Employees (NUPGE).
The Young Workers’ Committee (YWC) comprises of five (5) young workers who help the union to:
- understand how HSA is relevant to young workers and how to encourage their participation in the union;
- monitor and promote awareness of young worker issues within the union; and
- encourage increased opportunities in the labour movement for young workers’ involvement and participation.
Joining our Young Workers Committee is a great way to gain skills and knowledge that can help you become more active in your union. Past members of the Young Workers Committee have gone on to become stewards at their local HSA chapter, serve on HSA’s Board of Directors, and have implemented campaigns for a more participatory union as a part of the HSA Core Member Engagement team.
HSA is working towards equity and encourages people who experience marginalization (including but not limited to Indigenous peoples, people of the global majority, women, people with disabilities, LGBTQ2SIA+ people, immigrants and refugees, and members of diverse faiths) to apply to join the committee.

Applications are due by 11:59pm on Sunday, November 23rd.
