How to Organize a Pension Webinar
We are pleased to let stewards know that HSA is once again working with the Municipal Pension Plan to provide webinars for HSA members. Two webinars are available:
Making the Most of Your Pension: Are you establishing your career or several years away from retirement? Learn how the decisions you make throughout your career can affect your pension when you retire.
Approaching Retirement: Are you planning for or within five years of retirement? Understand the important decisions you need to make about your pension.
These webinars are available in two formats:
1. As instructor-led webinars. Webinars are hosted on Zoom and last for 75 minutes. They feature a live facilitator provided by the MPP who is able to answer participants’ questions.
The MPP has a schedule of webinars that are open to any member of the pension plan. The schedule offers two or three Approaching Retirement webinars per week, at varying times of day, but fewer Making the Most of Your Pension webinars.
Stewards can also organize a webinar specifically for members in their chapter. This option allows stewards to arrange webinars at times that work for members at their worksite, and also to reach out to encourage members to attend.
Stewards wishing to organize webinars for members at their sites are asked to complete a Pension Webinar Request form and submit to the Municipal Pension Plan at @email and copy HSA Education at @email.
2. As online courses. The online courses take approximately 45 minutes to complete, and feature a mix of still images and audio recordings. There is no instructor available to respond to participants’ questions. These courses may be a good option for members in rural or remote communities, whose internet connection will not allow them to participate in the webinar option.
If members have follow up questions they can contact the Municipal Pension Plan using Secure Message Centre within My Account or by calling toll free 1 800 668-6335.
There is also a short, approximately 15 minute long online course for new members of the MPP called “Getting to Know Your Pension”. This course is available any time, and offers a basic overview of the pension plan.
