HSA President Val Avery: Walk with me in the River Walk for Hospice

A message from HSA President Val Avery

I would like to invite HSA members to join me in supporting the New West Hospice Society by participating in the River Walk for Hospice, happening Saturday, Oct. 5. The River Walk for Hospice is an opportunity to gather in community, raise money for a good cause, and honour the memory of loved ones.

The New West Hospice Society is raising money as part of its efforts to build a community-driven hospice initiative for the City of New Westminster, and help shape New West into a city where “death is no longer hidden or whispered about, where people know what to say and do, and where residents can die with dignity and friends can grieve well.”

The fundraiser reflects the society’s commitment to building a compassionate community, whereby meeting the needs of those living with life-threatening or life-limiting illness, their caregivers, and the bereaved is understood as everyone’s responsibility - where supports for these groups are integrated across all facets of our community. Since HSA moved its head office to New Westminster in January 2015, our union has been able to engage in the city’s community life in new ways, and we are pleased to be a major sponsor of the River Walk. I plan to walk alongside our neighbours with our very own HSA team. You can join the team by visiting HSA’s fundraising page. If you aren’t able to walk with us, please consider making a donation.

The River Walk for Hospice is taking place Oct. 5, at 10am at the River Market. We will meet there and walk to Quayside Park and back. If you are interested in volunteering for our HSA booth, please contact @email.

I hope to see you there,

HSA President Val Avery
