HSA welcomes 120 new members from CML HealthCare

Employees at 10 Metro Vancouver locations of CML Healthcare, a private medical imaging and laboratory company with locations across Canada, have voted to join the Health Sciences Association of BC. The 120 employees join HSA members working at 12 CML facilities in Metro Vancouver and on Vancouver Island.

-Employees at these CML locations came to HSA looking for support to ensure fair and equitable treatment at work. They knew from their colleagues at other CML locations the benefits of joining together in a union to advocate for terms and conditions of work that meet their needs," said HSA President Reid Johnson.

-Employees had some concerns about a recent change in ownership, which saw their sites move from local ownership to ownership by a large multinational company. HSA welcomes these new members and will work to ensure their interests are protected and their concerns about fairness, equity, and health and safety on the job are addressed," Johnson said.

-As the union of caring professionals, HSA offers a proven track record in advocating for the needs of health science professionals and support staff."

With the addition of the new members, HSA represents 200 employees at CML HealthCare. The 120 new members will be included in the existing CML HeatlhCare collective agreement, which expires in 2010.

Health Sciences Association of BC is a union that represents 16,000 health science professionals who deliver diagnostic, clinical and rehabilitation services in hospitals, long term care facilities, social services agencies and private clinics.
