Johnson steps down as HSA Region 10 director

Candis Johnson, who was elected to the HSA Board of Directors as Region 10 Director in 2024, is stepping away from the Board of Directors effectively immediately.

“It has been an absolute pleasure to represent HSA members from Region 10 on the board of directors. This year I took on additional responsibilities as HSA Vice President in April, but I have come to realize the demands of the position, along with my commitment to the North Central Labour Council and busy work schedule at the Prince George Child Development Centre and College of New Caledonia, is not sustainable. I am disappointed to leave the union’s Board of Directors, but realize this is the right choice for maintaining a good work/life balance.

“The highlight of my time so far in HSA has been on the HSA Negotiating Committee at the HSPBA table for two rounds of bargaining, where I advocated for members working for smaller employers and in non-acute facilities and contributed to making important gains for those members.

“I look forward to continuing to be an active HSA member and working in the broader labour movement – and doing that work just a little bit closer to home.”
