Lower Mainland lab services consolidation: an update

HSA continues to advocate on behalf of Lower Mainland laboratory technologists affected by the employers plans to consolidate services under one health authority.

HSA met with the employer in a Section 54 meeting last Thursday, April 4. The employer has advised that they intend to transfer employment of all lab technologists to the Provincial Health Services Authority in the fall of 2012. However, the employer has not provided any information on plans for the transfer.

(Under Section 54 of BCs labour statute, the employer is obligated to inform the union of any intention to introduce changes affecting a significant number of employees. The employer filed Section 54 notice for Lower Mainland lab employees in February 2012.)

HSA has also struck a committee of laboratory technologists:

• Leanne Wyman, St. Pauls Hospital / Providence
• Charlene Martin, Vancouver General Hospital / Vancouver Coastal
• To be announced, Fraser Health
• To be announced, Provincial Health Services Authority
• Dawn Adamson, HSA Membership Services Coordinator

Protecting members throughout this employer initiative is a top priority for the union. The next meeting is scheduled for May 8.
