A message from the Provincial Chief Allied Health Officer on Allied Health Professionals Day

Shared on behalf of Lorrie Cramb, the Provincial Chief Allied Health Officer

In BC, the allied health workforce includes more than 70 disciplines and approximately 75,000 individuals providing a range of preventative, diagnostic, technical, and therapeutic health care and clinical support services across the lifespan and care continuum. They contribute specialized expertise, education, research and leadership, often working as integral members of a collaborative health care team to improve the health and wellbeing of the people of BC. October 14th, 2024 marks the third year BC has proclaimed Allied Health Professionals Day.

I recognize extraordinary challenges you're all facing regarding the health human resources shortage, and demand for allied health services. Over the past year the ministry has developed and implemented several key initiatives to help strengthen the allied health workforce. Some of these initiatives include recruitment and retention incentives, education seat expansions, new allied health leadership roles, and more.

As a registered dietitian for over 30 years, I know the sacrifices and long days you all put in. From the bottom of my heart: thank you.
