NBA, CBA and CSS Members Elected to Represent Colleagues on Contract Negotiating Committees

Delegates representing HSA members covered by the Nurses’ Bargaining Association (NBA), Community Bargaining Association (CBA) and Community Social Services Bargaining Association (CSS) collective agreements gathered in Vancouver October 29-30 to determine top priorities for the negotiation of contracts in 2025, and elect representatives to serve on their respective negotiating committees.

Nicole McIntosh was elected to serve on the negotiating committee for NBA members. McIntosh has been an RPN for 19 years with Providence Health Care and worked in both Acute Adult Psychiatry as well as Geriatric Psychiatry. She has been a steward for 16 years, most recently as a steward at large for Providence Health Care, and current serves on HSA’s elected Board of Directors. This will be McIntosh's third time representing HSA members on the NBA negotiating committee.

Nancy Martin was elected to serve on the negotiating committee for CBA members. Martin is an employment placement specialist at Open Door Group in Sechelt and has worked as a general site steward, OHS steward and assistant lead steward.

Dawn Marie Goodmurphy was elected to serve on the negotiating committee for CSS members. Goodmurphy is a youth outreach worker at John Howard Society in Campbell River. A lead steward for 9 years, she is also the member at large for Region 1, and served at the bargaining table in the last round of contract negotiations.

Contracts will expire March 31, 2025, and negotiations are expected to begin at that time. The bargaining proposals conferences are held well in advance to allow HSA members to determine their top priorities for the next contract. In September and October, members met to discuss priorities for the coming negotiations at chapter meetings, voted on proposals, and submitted all those selected for consideration. Members elected to this week’s bargaining proposals conference have taken a close look at all these proposals and have carefully prioritized them in preparation for the negotiations.

The NBA, CBA, and CSS agreements apply to workers represented by multiple unions. The union with the most workers is considered the “lead union” and leads the negotiating process with a negotiating committee made up of representatives from multiple unions. The lead union for the CBA and CSS is the BCGEU and the lead union for the NBA is the BCNU. McIntosh, Martin, and Goodmurphy will represent HSA members on their respective negotiating committees.
