Nominations open for David Bland Memorial Award
Five years ago, in 2005, David Bland, a vocational rehabilitation counsellor and HSA member from Richmond Mental Health, was murdered at his workplace by a former client. His tragic death served as a sombre reminder that more needs to be done to prevent incidents of violence in the workplace and to protect health care ands social services workers on the job.
To honour David, the HSA board of directors established the David Bland Memorial Award, which recognizes HSA members who have demonstrated outstanding leadership in the area of occupational health and safety and who have made a meaningful difference in the lives of their fellow HSA members.
Past recipients of the award are listed on the David Bland Memorial Award page.
Do you know a current HSA member who has:
- demonstrated leadership in the area of occupational health and safety,
- served as an effective role model and advocate for other HSA members at their facility with respect to occupational health and safety issues, and
- taken initiative on a specific local issue in order to improve the health and safety of other HSA members at their workplace?
If so, please complete the attached application form and return it to Marty Lovick at the HSA office by Sunday, February 28, 2010.
Nominations will be reviewed by HSAs Occupational Health and Safety Committee; and this years award recipient will be announced at HSAs 2010 Annual Convention in April.
