October 28 deadline for nomination to HSPBA negotiating committee approaching

All HSA members covered by the HSPBA (Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association) collective agreement are invited to submit their names for election to the union’s HSPBA negotiating committee by 5:00 pm on Monday, October 28.

Any HSA member covered by the HSPBA contract can stand for election to be part of the negotiating committee.

If you’d like to run, you must submit a written nomination statement (maximum 300 words) to @email by 5:00 pm on Monday, October 28. No nominations will be accepted after the deadline.

All nominations will be distributed to delegates elected to the November 6 – 8 HSPBA Bargaining Proposal Conference. Delegates to the conference were elected in fall meetings to represent members from across the province to set the bargaining priorities for 2025 contract negotiations. The HSPBSA collective agreement expires March 31, 2025.

The negotiating committee will consist of two members of the union’s Board of Directors, one member from each of the province’s health authority employers, and one member representing affiliated worksites. If among those committee members, there is no representative representing community-based worksites, an additional member representing community-based members will be elected.

HSA HSPBA negotiating committee members are mandated to:

  • represent the issues of the membership in good faith,
  • maintain confidentiality of the bargaining process during negotiations,
  • formulate contract proposals based primarily on the recommendations of the Bargaining Proposal Conference
  • evaluate the negotiating process during active bargaining and re-assess the priorities of the proposals based on current progress and bargaining strategies
  • report to the President on a regular basis during active bargaining, and
  • adhere to the financial policies of the union

Members should be aware that participating on the negotiating committee requires a significant time commitment – including nights and weekends, and that negotiations generally take place in the Lower Mainland. Negotiations can take several weeks to several months, with irregular scheduling.

Members are granted union-paid leave from their regular jobs when negotiations are active.

Deadline for written nominations is 5:00 pm, Monday, October 28. Members do not have to be a delegate to the bargaining proposal conference to put their name forward for election as a member of the negotiating committee.

Elected committee members will be announced at the close of the Bargaining Proposal Conferences.
