Pride Week events: union members invited to participate with Multi-Union Pride group
Union members interested in participating in Vancouvers Pride Week events this year are encouraged to join two Multi-Union Pride events.
Saturday, Aug. 1: Dyke March
The Vancouver Dyke March brings an all-inclusive march and festival to the East Side (Commercial Drive area). Participants, friends, and supporters can enjoy an afternoon of visibility, pride, music, community, art and merry-making the day before the annual Pride Parade.
Meet the Labour Dyke contingent, which is gathering at noon at McSpadden Park at 4th Avenue and Victoria Drive. The Dyke March will proceed from McSpadden Park to Grandview Park on Commercial Drive. For more information, see www.vancouverdykemarch.com.
Sunday, Aug. 2: Pride Parade
What began as a small protest march through the Davie Village has blossomed into a world-class Pride Parade attracting supporters and friends from Vancouver and world wide. Spanning 20 blocks and attracting an audience of 500,000 in 2008, the Pride Parade is Vancouvers premier celebration of culture and diversity.
Union members will participate in the parade, starting at noon at Robson and Thurlow. The parade then continues to Sunset Beach. Look for the Multi-Union Pride Contingent at the parade. For more information, check www.multiunionpride.ca or www.vancouverpride.ca.
Wear your pride on your sleeve
