Reminder regarding convention and election deadlines
1. REGIONAL DIRECTOR ELECTIONS
A reminder that Regions 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9 are holding elections for Regional Director. All HSA members in these regions are encouraged to put their names forward for nomination.
Regional Directors sit on the unions Board of Directors. They meet ten times per year and take an active leadership role in the unions committees. To be eligible, members must be employed in a chapter and be a member in good standing for one year. The term of office for Regional Directors is two years. Nominations must be made in writing by two members. For more information about the responsibilities of Regional Directors, and to obtain nomination forms, please contact your Chief Steward or visit the HSA website: www.hsabc.org

2. ELECTION OF PRESIDENT
An election for HSA President will be held at the annual convention. The term of office is two years. While deadline for nominations is just before the election at convention, candidates may submit a statement for publication in the annual report, as well as be eligible for broadcast of a video statement on the HSA website, if they are nominated by February 13, 2009.

3. RESOLUTIONS FOR HSAS ANNUAL CONVENTION IN APRIL
HSAs 2009 annual convention will be held April 23, 24 & 25, 2009 in Vancouver.
All members must submit resolutions to the convention through their chapters. Once endorsed by the chapter, resolutions are sent to the HSA office for inclusion in the Annual Report, published in March, and mailed to all members.
For guidance in preparing resolutions, stewards and members may want to refer to the union website at www.hsabc.org and review resolutions from previous conventions. They can be found on the website under the publications / annual reports section. The resolutions are contained in the ‘business arising and ‘minutes documents.
All members are encouraged to attend their chapter meeting and participate in the unions democratic decision-making process. Check with your chief steward for meeting details.

4. DELEGATE SELECTION & REGISTRATION
All HSA members are welcome to attend and speak at HSAs Annual Convention in Vancouver April 23-25, 2009, at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver. Only delegates, however, receive financial support to attend, and have the right to vote at convention.
For chapters with 49 or fewer members, the HSA chief steward is the sole delegate. If the chief steward is not attending convention, an alternate should be identified. Chapters with more than 49 members are entitled to one additional delegate for each additional 50 members or portion thereof.
Chapters electing delegates should hold delegate election meetings in time for delegates to register for convention by the March 18 deadline. The date, time and location of delegate election meetings should be posted on union notice boards in time to provide sufficient notice for members to attend these meetings.
