Summer Institute for Union Women – Details Released for June 23-25, 2022 Virtual Conference

Details for the 2022 Summer Institute for Union Women have just been released by the BC Federation of Labour:

Registration for the 2022 Summer Institute for Union Women (SIUW) has opened! This year’s Institute will take place from Thursday, June 23 through Saturday, June 25. Attendees of this three-day virtual leadership institute will take part in skill-building workshops, cultural activities, political action and education sessions designed to expand their understanding of solidarity and build connections.

The SIUW includes leaders and activists from unions, labor studies programs, apprenticeships and worker organizations from across British Columbia, the Western United States, Hawaii, and Alaska. SIUW is for all our cis and trans union sisters, as well as our non-binary siblings who are comfortable in a space that centers the experiences of women.

HSA is excited to support members’ participation by reimbursing the US$50 registration cost, and wage-replacement scholarships are available for 11 members. To apply for an HSA scholarship, which covers the cost of registration and wage replacement, please email @email with your name, profession, worksite and a brief paragraph explaining why you wish to attend before 12:00 noon PST on Monday, June 6. Members will be selected by random draw on Monday, June 6^th and notified by email.

Core courses being offered this year are:

• Organizing – Building Working Class Power for Justice
• Organizando (en espanol)
• Anti-oppression and Intersectionality in the Labour Movement
• Globalization and Immigration
• Women in Leadership
• Collective Bargaining
• Political Action

In addition to the core courses, there will be other workshops, events, and opportunities to socialize.

Registration is now open.
HSA will reimburse members’ registration fee with valid receipt. Although HSA will cover the registration costs for all members who register, HSA is limited to covering wages for 11 participants.

Scholarship Opportunities
To apply for an HSA scholarship, which covers the cost of registration and wage replacement, please email @email with your name, profession, worksite and a brief paragraph explaining why you wish to attend before 12:00 noon PST on Monday, June 6. Given the short timeframe, HSA will be supporting wage replacement for participants on a random draw on Monday, June 6^th.

Successful applicants will be notified via email.
