Support striking Sodexho workers

HSA President Cindy Stewart joined other union leaders at a rally in Vancouver to support HEU and BCGEU members who are on strike for a first collective agreement with Sodexho. The 1,100 workers have been on strike since Sept. 15. The majority of the dietary, cleaning and other support services workers are paid $10.15 per hour.

-We know the valuable services that you provide and it is time that Sodexho recognized your value and negotiated a fair and decent contract. They have tried to separate you from the rest of the health care team, but they have not. We know and understand that without you, we dont have a health care system," Stewart told the striking HEU members, who were joined at the rally by other health care workers and representatives from other unions.

-Were a team in there. But were a team out here too. HSA members want you back to work. But we want you back at work with a fair contract, and we will work with you to help you get it," Stewart said.

While picketing restrictions have been put in place by a Labour Relations Board ruling, HSA members are encouraged to support the striking workers by joining them on their breaks and before and after work on picket lines at hospitals and long term care facilities.

Please check the HSA website for updates on picketing and other activities to support the striking HEU and BCGEU members.
