Union continues discussion regarding the transition of work to BC Shared Health Services agency

Your union met with employer representatives Thursday as part of ongoing discussions about the transition of some work to a new agency called BC Shared Health Services (BCSHS). BCSHS was announced last year as part of the provincial government's work to review the health care system, and formally established as part of the Health Employers Association of BC (HEABC) on April 1, 2026.

On May 6, your union began discussions with HEABC, the Ministry of Health and representative employers, with the intent of negotiating a Labour Adjustment Plan that will cover the terms and conditions of the transfer to the new employer. A third meeting was held yesterday, and the union has been repeatedly assured that there will be no job losses, and no changes in the nature of the work, or the wages and benefits of impacted members. The transferred positions would continue working at their current worksites, with the same positions, schedules, pay, benefits and all entitlements governed by existing collective agreements.

Consolidation of services under BCSHS will roll out in stages starting this summer, and the first stage will include HSPBA members in information management and information technology — excluding clinical informatics and biomedical engineering. 

Members who your union has been informed will be impacted by this change will be contacted and invited to town hall sessions to discuss their specific circumstances and how the transfer agreement may apply, as discussions are still ongoing.
