Unionized benefits provider staff locked out

Unionized staff have been locked out at Pacific Blue Cross, the extended health benefits provider for thousands of HSA members.

Negotiations for a new contract started several months ago, and the union reports that the employer is demanding concessions, including rolling back retiree benefits. As the dispute escalates, Pacific Blue Cross has continued to advance concession proposals.

Union members had been engaged in rotating strikes, but were locked out late last week.

HSA members are encouraged to show solidarity by supporting the locked out members on their picket line at 4250 Canada Way in Burnaby.

Members are advised that claims processing is continuing, but that there are significant delays in processing and payment.
