Update: Supplemental Mental Health Benefit for RPNs

We're sending this bulletin to update RPNs on this spring's new supplemental health benefits for RPNs.

This funding was negotiated with the provincial government as part of your union’s ongoing work to provide greater support for RPNs, especially those dealing with the impact of significant shortages and excessive workload. Over the lifetime of the fund, it will provide up to $5000 worth of enhanced mental health and wellness support for NBA members like you.

The fund works as a supplementary benefit to your regular extended health benefit plan and can be used towards additional treatment with a registered psychologist or registered clinical counsellor once your $900 annual benefit has been exhausted.

In addition, the fund can be used for access to the services of registered social workers and registered dietitians, as well as internet-based cognitive behavioural therapy (iCBT). The fund is open to all NBA members who are regular full-time, regular part-time or casual employees enrolled in Policy #50000 through Pacific Blue Cross (PBC).

Please note: this supplementary benefit does not extend to your spouse, dependents or other family members.

Registration Details

If you have already registered with HSA for access to supplemental benefits available under the Mental Health Support Fund, you have now been enrolled with Pacific Blue Cross for these benefits.

NBA members who registered for access to the new supplementary funding for dietitian and psychology services prior to July 17, 2025 will have received a new benefits card in the mail from Pacific Blue Cross (PBC). Please note, this plan number (83478) only applies to the supplementary funding. Your primary extended health and dental plan number with PBC is still 50000 and you will continue to use this benefits card for drugs, extended health and dental benefits.

As a result of the job action by CUPW members at Canada Post, members who register after July 17, 2025 will receive their PBC supplemental benefits card by email to the address provided as part of your registration.

All RPNs who have registered with HSA for access to these benefits can now submit their receipts for eligible services incurred from April 1, 2025 onwards directly to PBC for reimbursement.

For those NBA members who have not yet registered, we encourage you to apply for this benefit now to ensure that you'll be able to access the funding without delay should you need it. Please don't wait — apply now!

If you have held off on registration because you didn't have your Bluenet card, plan number or existing benefit identification number handy, we have good news: the registration process has been simplified. Please don't delay — apply today!

You will need to have your personal email address registerd with HSA; if you need to do that, please send a quick email to info@hsabc.org so that staff can assist you.
