We're running the race every day - join us October 1

As HSA's Team Captain for the 2006 Run for the Cure, I encourage you to support this year's CIBC Run for the Cure, the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundation's most important fundraiser of the year. Runs are being held across British Columbia, and even if there isn't a run in your community, you can help the fight against breast cancer by making a donation to a member of the HSA provincial team.

HSA's goal for the 2006 Run is to increase the almost $1 million dollars in support that HSA and individual HSA team members have contributed to support breast cancer research. And there's an incentive! The top five HSA individual fundraisers will win a $200 gift certificate at the Running Room.

To register for the Run go to www.cibcrunforthecure.com.  The option to join the HSA team does not appear until the last screen.  The team name is Health Sciences Association, and Im proud to be the Team Captain.

As a union of health care professionals, HSA knows first-hand the devastating impact that breast cancer has on women and their families. Eighty-five per cent of our members are women, and thousands of HSA members play a role in the diagnosis, treatment, and rehabilitation of breast cancer patients.

These are the reasons that the union became a sponsor of the Canadian Breast Cancer Foundations annual Run for the Cure in 1997.  Since then HSA members have contributed almost one million dollars to the fight against breast cancer through the union's sponsorship of $25,000 per year, donations raised by members, and educational and promotional support.

The Run for the Cure will be taking place on October 1 in ten communities across the province: Abbotsford/Fraser Valley, Castlegar, Golden, Kamloops, Kelowna, Nanaimo, Port McNeill, Prince George, Vancouver and Victoria.

Lets keep working together for a future without breast cancer!

Cindy Stewart,
President and Team Captain
Health Sciences Association of BC
