Voting begins in six (6!) days. Have you got your credentials ready?

For the first time ever, all HSA members are entitled to vote for the union’s president. Voting will be open for 24 hours from noon April 10 to noon April 11 – but you need credentials to vote.

Voting credentials consist of a unique ID number and passcode, and these are required for logging into the online election being conducted by Simply Voting, an independent elections platform. On February 28, HSA sent voting credentials to all members by postal mail. You should have received them by now.

If you received your credentials, you are registered to vote. Keep your credentials in a safe place until noon on April 10, when voting begins - and if you are coming to convention, don't forget to pack them or take a picture of the necessary information.

If you have misplaced the credentials you received in the mail, you can register to have them sent to you by email. Just go to HSA Member Centre and follow the instructions there. Your credentials will not be sent right away – they will be emailed to you on April 10 when the voting opens at noon

Final reminder: deadline for new members to register to vote is this Monday April 7 at noon

If you or your colleagues did not receive your credentials in the mail, you may not be registered to vote. This will be an issue for new members who have only joined HSA since March 1, or for members whose employers never got around to providing them with an HSA membership form, which actually happens a lot more than you’d imagine. We can fix this.

  • First, try to register to have your credentials sent by email by following the instructions at HSA Member Centre.
  • If you are told your email doesn’t match our records, contact @email for help. Provide your name, work site, home and cell phone numbers. Staff will use this information to verify your membership status.
  • If HSA has no record of your membership, we may ask for additional information to investigate further.

The process of verifying membership status can take several days, so the deadline for new members to register is noon on April 7, which is 72 hours before the vote begins.

If you did not receive your voting credentials by mail, joined HSA recently, or have any questions about your membership status be sure to email @email for confirmation well before noon this Monday April 7.

What to do on election day

The election will be by ranked ballot, with voters indicating their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, 4th, 5th and subsequent choices. Find out more about the ranked ballot process here.

Voting opens at noon on April 10, and closes 24 hours later at noon on April 11. Be sure to vote early so that if any problems occur there is time to get support.

  • If you already have your credentials, you can use them to log in and vote when voting opens.
  • If you’ve registered to receive your credentials by email, they will be sent at noon on April 10. The email will come from @email and from one of the following domains: simplyvoting.com or o3.email.simplyvoting.com, so be sure to check your spam filters and it’s a good idea to add Simply Voting to your safe senders list.
  • If at the last minute you realize you lost your credentials, contact @email and we will assist. But you must do so before 9:00 am on April 11. Email credential requests are processed manually by staff and depending on demand could take a few hours to fulfil. If you have your paper credentials safely in hand, please use those and save the email request system for those who are genuinely in a jam because theirs are lost.
