HSA psychiatric nurses to be surveyed on priorities for bargaining

HSA is preparing for the next round of contract negotiations between the Nurses' Bargaining Association and the Health Employers Association of B.C. The current provincial collective agreement expires March 31, 2006.
All HSA registered psychiatric nurses will receive a questionnaire in the mail. The survey is designed to identify working conditions and members' bargaining priorities.

HSA is offering three one day workshops this fall:
HEU picketing at health facilities limited; direct employees guaranteed access to work

Direct employees of health authorities, including all HSA members, will have access to work in the event that HEU members in a first contract dispute with Sodexho erect picket lines. Each of the worksites affected has been designated locations where picketing is allowed, and access is guaranteed to ensure 100 per cent levels of service by direct employees of the health authorities.
HEU issues 72-hour strike notice in dispute for first agreement with Sodexho

HSA today received notice that the Hospital Employees' Union has issued 72-hour strike notice against Sodexho. The parties have been bargaining for a first collective agreement since March 11.
The earliest potential for job action is Thursday, Sept. 15. Because of orders issued by the Labour Relations Board, HSA and other union members will not be affected by picket lines, except that access to the worksite will be through designated entrances.
PPBA bargaining proposal delegates to be elected at regional meetings

Delegates to HSAs Fall Regional Meetings will elect representatives to a bargaining proposal conference this winter for members covered by the Paramedical Professional Bargaining Association contract.
Any member covered by the PPBA contract may run for a delegate position. Members do not have to be a delegate to the regional meeting to put their names forward for consideration as a representative to the bargaining proposal conference, however, only delegates to the meeting are entitled to vote for bargaining proposal conference delegates.
Labour Day rally to support locked-out and striking workers

Labour Day is not just another holiday, and HSA is encouraging all members to remember the struggles of working people before us that have helped achieve things like the 40-hour work week, minimum wage, and protection from occupational hazards this weekend.
In the Lower Mainland, the BC Federation of Labour is holding a Labour Day rally in support of locked-out Telus and CBC and striking Teck-Cominco workers, to be held Monday, Sept. 5 at 12 noon across from the Telus Building at the corner of Kingsway and Boundary in Burnaby.

Join the Pride Parade Sunday, July 31

The HSA Committee for Equality and Social Action (CESA) is urging all HSA members to participate in this years Pride Parade on Sunday, July 31st in Vancouver's West End. This years theme is No Turning Back.
The Pride Parade is an annual celebration for lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgendered people and their friends and allies.
The Multi-Union Pride Committee will meet at 11:00 am in the 1700 block of Alberni Street. The parade begins on Barclay (East of Denman) at noon, ending with a festival from 2-6 at Sunset Beach.
