Government proposing new Laboratory Services Act (Bill 7)

Bill 7, the Laboratory Services Act was introduced in the BC Legislature by the Liberal government on February 17, 2014, and is currently at the stage of first reading. The proposed legislation makes significant changes in several areas, including the legislative framework, governance and funding models for medical laboratory services. Reminder: Monday, March 10, 2014 - Deadline for Scholarships and Bursaries available for HSA members and their families

(deadline extended from original date of FebRUARY 28) HSA is offering scholarships and bursaries to all members and their children.  Ten scholarships will be awarded for full-time studies, twenty bursaries for full-time studies and four bursaries for part-time studies.  Two aboriginal scholarships will be awarded to aboriginal students in BC.

Reminder: RPNs must file drug coverage grievances before Feb 27

All HSA Registered Psychiatric Nurses are reminded that you will have until next Thursday, February 27, 2014 to file a grievance about lack of drug coverage. Decisions about grievance remedies will be made after February 27 once a full review of every individual grievance has been completed. To file a grievance on your behalf HSA requires that you complete the following form:

Community social service members ratify five year agreement

Agreement includes wage adjustments and pay increases Community social service workers have voted by 85 per cent in favour of ratifying a new collective agreement that includes wage adjustments and increases of up to 11.5 percent over five years. The new collective agreement will be in effect from April 1, 2014 until March 31, 2019. Community Living workers ratified the tentative agreement by 83 per cent. General Services ratified by 91 per cent, and Aboriginal Services ratified by 63 per cent.

Ayers to join HSA Board of Directors

Mandi Ayers, a lab technologist at Bulkley Valley District Hospital, will join the HSA Board of Directors in April 2014 as the Regional Director representing Region 10.

HSA's community health members ratify five-year agreement

Members of the multi-union Community Health Bargaining Association (CBA) – including almost 800 HSA members -- have voted 78.7% in favour of accepting a new collective agreement with the Health Employers’ Association of BC (HEABC). The five-year collective agreement expires on March 31, 2019 and covers over 15,000 union members working in community health across the province.
