CSS Bargaining Update: An update from your community social services bargaining association

The nine-union Community Social Services Bargaining Association (CSSBA) has not been back to the negotiations table since the last update that we shared with you in early November but we wanted to let you know what is happening with the negotiation of your new collective agreement in the Indigenous Services, General Services, and Community Living sub-sectors.

Andrew Duarte appointed HSA Region 1 Regional Director

Andrew Duarte, a Homeless Outreach and Prevention Counsellor at John Howard Society, has been appointed Regional Director to represent HSA members on the HSA Board of Directors. His appointment comes following the resignation of Becky Packer, who was unable to continue in the role for personal reasons. Packer also served as the union’s secretary-treasurer.

HSA convention and elections 2023: important dates and deadlines

Preparations for HSA’s annual convention and biennial elections of President and Regional Directors are underway.  Please note these important dates and deadlines:   52nd Annual Convention The annual convention is where delegates from around the province set the policies and priorities for the union, and includes debate on resolutions submitted by HSA chapters across the province.

Nominations now open for HSA Regional Director elections – January 19 deadline

Nominations are now open for Regional Director elections in HSA Regions 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. This is an excellent opportunity for members to serve on the HSA Board of Directors, contribute to the leadership of the union, and to represent the interests of other members. HSA’s Board of Directors comprises 10 Regional Directors elected by members from their region, and the President, who is elected every two years by delegates to the union’s convention.

One of Canada's best labour schools is open for registration The CLC Winter School, held at Harrison Hot Springs in January and February 2023, offers a wide variety of high-quality labour-oriented courses. Upcoming HSA Steward Workshops: Basic Steward Training and Basic OH&S Steward Training Winter 2023

Registration Information: Stewards may register by logging into My Events Registration. Workshops are listed under Steward Education events.   Basic Steward Training (three-day workshop) Stewards play a vital role in the union. This workshop will teach new stewards the skills to enable them to serve confidently in their role. Workshop content includes the role of the steward, organizing your chapter, grievance handling, and basic contract interpretation.

CBA Bargaining Update: Bargaining continues, progress stalling

The CBA bargaining committee resumed negotiations with HEABC on October 19 – 21, 2022. We have made some progress and are close to resolving outstanding non-monetary matters and we’re currently working to reach an agreement on changes to hours of work in both Article 14 and 15.
