CSSBA makes proposals to distribute $3.5 million surplus bonus fund

The Community Social Services Bargaining Association (CSSBA) has negotiated a guaranteed minimum fund for Early Incentive Bonus Payments with the Community Social Service Employers' Association (CCSEA). The CSSBA also reached an agreement with CCSEA that if there was money left after distributing the Early Incentive Payments the CSSBA would determine the manner of distribution of that money. The audit of expenditures has now been completed and there is a surplus of almost $4 million.

HSA Board of Directors elects vice president, secretary-treasurer

Suzanne Bennett, regional director for HSA Region 1, has been elected by the HSA Board of Directors to serve as the unions vice-president.  The vice-president assumes the duties of the president at the presidents request or in the presidents absence and chairs the unions resolutions committee. This is her second term as vice-president.

Mourn for the dead; fight for the living

On April 28, 2008, we mark the 24th anniversary of the National Day of Mourning for workers killed and injured on the job. The National Day of Mourning is an initiative of the Canadian Labour Congress and was started in 1984. It is now celebrated around the world from Azerbaijan to Zambia.

Rally for Medicare, increased political action supported by HSA delegates

Delegates rallied to Stand Up for Medicare. Delegates to the 37th annual convention of the Health Sciences Association kicked off the two-day convention with a rally to support Medicare, and closed the annual meeting bidding farewell to two long-standing board members. The Friday rally, -Standing up for Medicare" featured warnings about what the future hold for health care in B.C.

The Health Sciences Association of BC (HSA) will kick off its 37th annual convention Friday, April 18, 2008 at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown Hotel in Burnaby, 6083 MacKay Avenue. Charting our Course is the theme of this years convention, as delegates consider a number of resolutions to set priorities for the unions future. Delegates will also participate in a noon-hour rally to defend publicly funded and delivered health care. Highlights of the Convention include:
