HSA seeks Region 3 representative on unions Board of Directors

HSA is calling for nominations for the position of Regional Director for Region 3, following the resignation of Maureen Ashfield who has served in the position since 2005. Maureen resigned from the board last week due to a serious illness in her family.

The HSA board of directors is grateful for the contribution made by Maureen during her term and offers their best wishes to her and her family.

The new Regional Director will serve the remainder of the two-year term which ends at the conclusion of HSAs 2007 annual convention.

HSA urges all members to consider running for this important position


HSA is once again calling for nominations for the position of Regional Director for Region 6 after nominations closed on January 27th with no candidates coming forward.

HSA members return Joan Magee as Region 8 Director

Joan Magee, a laboratory technologist at Cariboo Memorial Hospital, has been acclaimed as the Region 8 representative on the HSA Board of Directors after the January 27th deadline passed with no further nominations.

Joan is a charter member of HSA and has served as a chief steward at Cariboo Memorial Hospital in Williams Lake since 1996. As a Member-At-Large for Region 10, she served on the unions Education and Resolutions Committees. She currently serves on the Political Action and Finance Committees. She is also a Trustee for HSA LTD Trust #1.

Region 10 members return Lois Dick as Region 10 Director

Lois Dick, a laboratory technologist at Dawson Creek and District Hospital, has been acclaimed as the Region 10 representative on the HSA Board of Directors after the January 27th deadline passed with no further nominations.

Lois is a long time activist in the union, having served as a Member-At-Large, Assistant Steward and Chief Steward. She has been a member of HSA for 35 years.

HSA members return Agnes Jackman as Region 4 Director

Agnes Jackman, a physiotherapist at George Pearson Rehabilitation Centre, has been acclaimed as the Region 4 representative on the HSA Board of Directors after the January 27th deadline passed with no further nominations.

Agnes has been an HSA member since 1973, when she started working as a physical therapist at Vancouver General Hospital. She was active in her professional association from 1977 to 1992 and has served as a union steward at the George Pearson Centre since the late 1990s.

Two candidates seek to represent HSA members in Region 2

During the next several weeks, HSA members in Region 2 will have an opportunity to elect their representative on the HSA Board of Directors.

Nominations for the position closed on January 27th with two members declaring their candidacy: Brian Isberg, a Laboratory Technologist at Victoria General Hospital and Derrick Hoyt, a Laboratory Technologist at Royal Jubilee Hospital.

In the coming weeks, all members in Region 2 will receive an election package in the mail which includes candidate biographies, voting instructions, a ballot, and a return envelope.

HSA welcomes new Executive Director - Legal

The HSA Board of Directors is pleased to announce the appointment of Maureen Headley as Executive Director ... Legal.

Headley will oversee services to members, including Labour Relations Board and arbitration matters, Workers' Compensation Board claims, Occupational Health and Safety issues, Long Term Disability claims and Classifications matters.

Headley has been a union-side labour lawyer in private practice for the past 13 years. She is also a recognized harassment investigator.

2006 HSA Convention to be held April 6, 7, & 8, 2006 in Burnaby

The 2006 HSA Convention is just around the corner. Once again, delegates will have an opportunity to debate issues and help to determine the future direction of our union.

All HSA members are welcome to attend and speak at the Convention, which will be held this year at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown in Burnaby. However, only delegates have the right to vote.

HSA members will soon be preparing for the 2006 HSA Convention, to be held April 6, 7, & 8, 2006 at the Hilton Vancouver Metrotown in Burnaby.

Conventions are where chapters from around the province determine the future direction of the union. Policies, actions, constitutional amendments, structural changes are all discussed and debated at convention.
