Register by Jan. 12 for 'Conversation' in Nanaimo

The provincial government has announced the dates for the regional forums on health care. Deadline for registration for the forum in Nanaimo is January 12. Health care professionals have been barred from participating in the public forums, but are encouraged to participate in 'professional forums.'  In Kelowna, the 'professional' forum is scheduled for Feb. 16.

B.C. labour calls on half a million members to boycott Goodyear Tires

Vancouver - The B.C. Federation of Labour has endorsed a call by the Canadian Labour Congress for a national boycott of Goodyear Tire, says Federation President Jim Sinclair. Delegates to the Federation's recent 50th annual convention approved an emergency resolution supporting the struggle of 15,000 striking Goodyear workers in Canada and the United States. These workers have been battling major contract concessions while on strike at 15 Goodyear Tire and Rubber Co. facilities across North America since October 5, 2006.

International Human Rights Day Dec. 10

OTTAWA ... This Sunday December 10, people across the country will mark International Human Rights Day by asking the federal government to realize that women's rights are human rights. "This government let women down when they abandoned the promotion of women's equality, " said Barbara Byers, executive vice-president of the Canadian Labour Congress.

2007 HSA Convention to be held April 19-21 in Vancouver

Highlights include election of a new HSA president The next HSA Convention will take place April 19-21, 2007 at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver. The 2007 convention is shaping up to be once of the most exciting conventions in recent memory as delegates will elect a new union president for the first time in 14 years.

HSA members will soon be preparing for the 2007 HSA Convention, to be held April 19, 20, & 21, 2007 at the Fairmont Hotel in Vancouver. Conventions are where chapters from around the province determine the future direction of the union.  Policies, actions, constitutional amendments, structural changes are all discussed and debated at convention.

Nominations open for Regional Director positions in Region 1, 3, 5, 7 & 9

This year, Regional Director elections will take place in Regions 1, 3, 5, 7, & 9.  All HSA members in these regions are encouraged to put their name forward for these important positions.

HSAs 2007 Annual Convention will be one of the most exciting conventions in recent memory as delegates will elect a new union president for the first time in fourteen years. Cindy Stewart, president of HSA since 1993, announced last April that she would not be seeking re-election for another term at the 2007 convention.
