Community social service members ratify five year agreement

Agreement includes wage adjustments and pay increases Community social service workers have voted by 85 per cent in favour of ratifying a new collective agreement that includes wage adjustments and increases of up to 11.5 percent over five years. The new collective agreement will be in effect from April 1, 2014 until March 31, 2019. Community Living workers ratified the tentative agreement by 83 per cent. General Services ratified by 91 per cent, and Aboriginal Services ratified by 63 per cent.

Ayers to join HSA Board of Directors

Mandi Ayers, a lab technologist at Bulkley Valley District Hospital, will join the HSA Board of Directors in April 2014 as the Regional Director representing Region 10.

Reminder: Monday, March 10, 2014 - Deadline for Scholarships and Bursaries available for HSA members and their families

(deadline extended from original date of FebRUARY 28) HSA is offering scholarships and bursaries to all members and their children.  Ten scholarships will be awarded for full-time studies, twenty bursaries for full-time studies and four bursaries for part-time studies.  Two aboriginal scholarships will be awarded to aboriginal students in BC.

Allen Peters acclaimed as Region 8 representative on HSA Board of Directors

Allen Peters has been selected to return as the Region 8 representative to the HSA Board of Directors. He was acclaimed after the deadline passed with no further nominations. Peters is a Medical Radiation Technologist at Nicola Valley General Hospital, and has served on the union's Board of Directors since 2011. He currently chairs the union's Occupational Health and Safety and Education committees, and has been an active member of the union, serving as steward, member-at-large, and member of various committees for several years.  

Anita Bardal acclaimed as Region 6 representative on HSA Board of Directors

  Anita Bardal has been selected to return as the Region 6 representative to the HSA Board of Directors. She was acclaimed after the deadline passed with no further nominations. Bardal is a Medical Radiation Technologist at St.Paul's Hospital, and has served on the union's Board of Directors since 2010. She has served as chair and member of a number of the union's committees and as a Chief Steward at St. Paul's Hospital.

Two candidates for Region 10 Regional Director

During the next several weeks, HSA members in Region 10 will have an opportunity to elect their representative on HSA’s Board of Directors. Nominations for the position closed January 30, with two members declaring their candidacy: • Mandy Ayers, a Medical Laboratory Technologist at Bulkley Valley District Hospital • Jameel Khan, a Medical Laboratory echnologist at University Hospital of Northern BC

During the next several weeks, HSA members in Region 4 will have an opportunity to elect their representative on HSA’s Board of Directors. Nominations for the position closed January 30, with two members declaring their candidacy: • Joseph Sebastian, a Medical Radiation Technologist at Vancouver General Hospital • Brendan Shields, a Music Therapist at Minoru Residence, Richmond Hospital

HSA's community health members ratify five-year agreement

Members of the multi-union Community Health Bargaining Association (CBA) – including almost 800 HSA members -- have voted 78.7% in favour of accepting a new collective agreement with the Health Employers’ Association of BC (HEABC). The five-year collective agreement expires on March 31, 2019 and covers over 15,000 union members working in community health across the province.
