Two candidates for Region 2 Regional Director

During the next several weeks, HSA members in Region 2 will have an opportunity to elect their representative on HSA’s Board of Directors.

Nominations for the position closed January 30, with two members declaring their candidacy:

• Derrick Hoyt, a Pathologist's Assistant at Royal Jubilee Hospital

• Anna Morton, a social worker at Queen Alexandra Centre for Children's Health

Nominations open for HSA board members to represent Regions 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10

This year, Regional Director elections will take place in Regions 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10.  All HSA members in these regions are encouraged to put their name forward for these important positions.

The Board of Directors meets quarterly, and directors take an active leadership role in representing the union.  They receive wage replacement at their regular rate of pay for the time they spend in official meetings.  Part-time and casual members are reimbursed as if they were at work during the meetings they attend.

Nominations open for HSA president

The next HSA Annual Convention will take place April 10 – 12, 2014 at the Fairmont Hotel Vancouver.

All HSA members are welcome to attend and speak at the convention.  However, only delegates have the right to vote. At this year’s convention, delegates will elect a president to complete the 2013 – 2015 term.

This is a mid-term byelection, and will carry a term of one year, expiring at the end of the 2015 annual HSA convention. The president is elected by delegates to the union’s Annual Convention.

…Therefore be it resolved

HSA members will soon be preparing for the 2014 HSA Convention, to be held April 10-12, 2014 at the Fairmont Hotel (Vancouver Hotel) in Vancouver.

Annual convention is the union’s annual meeting where chapter representatives from around the province determine the union’s future direction.  Policies, actions, constitutional amendments, and structural changes are all discussed and debated at convention.

A MESSAGE FROM JEANNE MEYERS, HSA LABOUR RELATIONS AND LEGAL SERVICES

HSA REPORT, DECEMBER 2013

As this issue of The Report goes to press, the Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association has reached a tentative agreement for a renewed contract running from April 1, 2014 to March 31, 2019.

The proposed five-year agreement has a number of elements that I and the bargaining committee believe meet the needs of health science professionals.

An agreement worth supporting

A MESSAGE FROM HSA PRESIDENT VAL AVERY

THE REPORT, DECEMBER 2013

HSA and other unions have been hunkered down in ceaseless and difficult negotiations for almost five years.

The effort has expended enormous resources – resources that we need to focus on helping members deal with their daily workplace challenges.

So when mediators approached HSA and other unions about early negotiations for a five-year deal, we decided to listen.
