2022 look-ahead: Bargaining, convention, and opportunities to participate in research surveys to support and protect health care workers

2022 is off to a busy start for HSA with preparations underway for contract negotiations for members working in health care and community social services. Contracts covering more than 20,000 members are set to expire March 31, 2022. Also coming up in 2022 is the union’s annual convention April 28-30, planned to be held in person in Vancouver. In the lead-up to the convention, Board of Directors elections are also scheduled, with nominations closing on February 10.

Survey on Enhanced Disability Management Program

SURVEY ON ENHANCED DISABILITY MANAGEMENT PROGRAM If you took part in the Enhanced Disability Management Program (EDMP) between April 2019 and March 2020, you will receive a survey in the next couple of weeks. Members have been chosen randomly, and will be invited to provide feedback about their experiences.

HSA Annual Convention set for April 28 – 30; Deadline for resolutions is February 18, 2022

Preparations are underway for the 2022 HSA Annual Convention, to be held in-person over three days in Vancouver from Thursday, April 28 to Saturday, April 30. However, as the COVID-19 pandemic continues, the union’s Board of Directors will monitor the situation and may shift to an online convention format over the same three days. The last two annual conventions, in November 2020 and June 2021, as well as Bargaining Proposal Conferences in October and November 2021, were all conducted online.

Better protection needed for health care workers

As health science professionals and other health care workers continue to experience crushing workloads caused by long-standing shortages, which continue to be exacerbated by health care staff absences because of the accelerated spread of Covid-19 at health care worksites, HSA is calling on the Ministry of Health to ensure enhanced precautions are put in place.   In addition, the union rejects suggestions that health care workers may be expected to report to work even if they have symptoms of COVID-19.  

Second call for nominations for HSA Regional Director elections – February 10 deadline

Nominations are now open for Regional Director elections in HSA Regions 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10. This is an excellent opportunity for members to seek to serve on the HSA Board of Directors, contribute to the leadership of the union, and to represent the interests of other members. To be eligible, a nominee must have been a member of HSA for at least one year immediately prior to election, and be nominated in writing by two members in the region they are seeking to represent.
