The Canadian Labour Congress and local labour councils around the province are organizing more opportunities for union members to canvass for federal election candidates. This is a great way to get involved in the election. Join members from other unions for a few hours to talk with people in your community, and help elect the candidate labour is supporting in your area. BCNU excludes HSA RPNs from negotiations for new contract

Move to silence RPNs violates Articles of Association ordered by Labour Relations Board
HSA today launched action on behalf of RPNs who are being excluded from BCNU-led negotiations for a new contract. HSA is making application to the Labour Relations Board for an order that bargaining not take place until RPNs are fully represented by HSA negotiators.

Agreement in principle reached on 37.5 hour work week grievances

Earlier this summer, unions belonging to the Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association reached a settlement agreement in principle with respect to outstanding grievances about 37.5 hour work week process at Vancouver Coastal Health Authority. As a result of this agreement in principle, schedules will not change, but grievors will receive one of two different possible settlements:

PHSA Lab redesign still in the review stage

Over the last month the employer and HSA, on behalf of the Health Science Professionals Bargaining Association (HSPBA), have met with members at the PHSA lab sites to review the employer’s draft organizational chart and to discuss the impact on members of the PHSA lab redesign.

Does your organization promote and protect trade union, human, or women’s rights? Are you working to eliminate inequalities in society and the workplace? Are you fighting for universal health care and the elimination of poverty or the promotion and protection of a health environment?
If so, HSA’s Committee on Equality and Social Action may be able to help.
A percentage of members’ union dues are set aside for the committee to support organizations doing this important work, and the call for applications is now open. Deadline for application for funding is October 1.
March with Pride this weekend

March with the HSA and other labour unions as part of the Multi-Union Pride group in the Vancouver Pride Parade on Sunday, August 2, 2015. Arrive between 12 and 12:30 pm
Marching is open to all HSA members, their families and friends. Participants must arrive at the float and marching group staging area on the north side of Alberni Street (between Thurlow and Burrard) by 12:30 pm at the latest. Just look for the HSA and other labour union flags.

Interior Health Authority announces plans to restructure lab services
July 22, 2015
A massive redesign of laboratory services in Interior Health Authority was announced this month by the health authority. Changes over the next two years include consolidation of all services to the Kelowna General Hospital lab, and the expanded use of Point of Care (POC) testing. The changes are expected to affect 23 sites across IHA.
