CBA Bargaining Update: Next steps on stalled negotiations

Andrew Duarte appointed HSA Region 1 Regional Director

Andrew Duarte, a Homeless Outreach and Prevention Counsellor at John Howard Society, has been appointed Regional Director to represent HSA members on the HSA Board of Directors.
His appointment comes following the resignation of Becky Packer, who was unable to continue in the role for personal reasons. Packer also served as the union’s secretary-treasurer.
HSPBA Ratification: Schedule of Information Meetings on Proposed Contract

For almost 20 years, provincial governments in BC worked deliberately to drive down wages for specialized health professionals in BC.
In many cases they succeeded, leaving health professionals earning some of the lowest wages relative to their colleagues across Canada. It was a misguided attempt to control health care costs; instead, it slowly undermined the health care system even before the pandemic created the current crisis of dire shortages and crushing workload.
CBA Bargaining Update: Talks Break Off

A delegation from the constituent unions of the CBA met with HEABC and a representative of the Public Sector Employers’ Council Secretariat (PSEC) on November 3, 2022. It was our goal to impress upon PSEC that the CBA was unable to meet the core priorities we had established based on the monetary offer we have received. In particular we outlined the dramatic differences in compensation between CBA and FBA workers and the impact it has had, and will continue to have, on recruitment and retention in the CBA.

HSA convention and elections 2023: important dates and deadlines

Preparations for HSA’s annual convention and biennial elections of President and Regional Directors are underway. Please note these important dates and deadlines: 52nd Annual Convention The annual convention is where delegates from around the province set the policies and priorities for the union, and includes debate on resolutions submitted by HSA chapters across the province.
Nominations now open for HSA Regional Director elections – January 19 deadline

Nominations are now open for Regional Director elections in HSA Regions 1, 3, 5, 7, and 9. This is an excellent opportunity for members to serve on the HSA Board of Directors, contribute to the leadership of the union, and to represent the interests of other members. HSA’s Board of Directors comprises 10 Regional Directors elected by members from their region, and the President, who is elected every two years by delegates to the union’s convention.
