HSA members will soon be preparing for the 2011 HSA Convention, to be held April 7, 8, & 9, 2011 at the Westin Bayshore Hotel in Vancouver.

Conventions are the unions annual meeting where chapters from around the province determine the future direction of the union.  Policies, actions, constitutional amendments, structural changes are all discussed and debated at convention.

40th Annual HSA Convention to be held April 7-9, 2011 in Vancouver (REVISED)

The next HSA Annual Convention will take place April 7-9, 2011 at the Westin Bayshore Hotel in Vancouver.

All HSA members are welcome to attend and speak at the convention.  However, only delegates have the right to vote.

For chapters with 49 or fewer members, the HSA chief steward is the sole delegate.  If the chief steward is not attending convention, an alternate should be identified.  Chapters with more than 49 members are entitled to one additional delegate for each additional 50 members or portion thereof.

CML tentative agreement: Union board of directors recommends voting -yes"

HSAs bargaining team for CML Healthcare employees has reached a tentative agreement on a new contract providing significant gains. The union represents approximately 200 CML members on Vancouver Island and the Lower Mainland.

The unions board of directors is recommending acceptance of the agreement.

Wage increases
The contract commences January 1, 2011, and expires December 31, 2015.  The contract contains significant gains in all five years of the agreement.

• January 1, 2011:

HSA steward elections

Elections will be held during the next  six  weeks to select members to fill the following HSA positions for the coming year:

1. Chief Steward
2. Assistant Chief Steward
3. General Stewards
4. Occupational Health & Safety Stewards and
5. Labour Council Delegates (for chapters that are, or wish to become, affiliated to their local labour council).

Defending public health care the focus for health science professionals union

Members of the Health Sciences Association, the health care union that represents health sciences professionals who deliver diagnosis, treatment and recovery in BCs hospitals and communities, is meeting this weekend at its 39th annual convention in Vancouver.

BC Federation of Labour President Jim Sinclair told delegates Friday that it is important to fight for public health care, because the private interests that want to make money off of health care are threatening access to quality care to everybody who needs it.

HSA members elect Anita Bardal as Region 6 Director

HSA members in Region 6 have elected Anita Bardal, a medical radiation technologist at St. Pauls Hospital, as their representative on the unions Board of Directors.

The other candidates for election were James Lyons, a medical radiation technologist at Mount St. Joseph Hospital, and Mo Norton, a program support clerk at North Shore Community Health Services.
