Lots to talk about

The Report: September 2012 vol.33 num.3

Like those of you who attend a lot of meetings, I notice that some of them arent that productive.

But thats not how I feel about the regional meetings we hold annually. With more than 16,000 members working in over 75 professions at 250 facilities in communities all over the province, I look forward to the regional meetings as an opportunity to connect with you and hear what you have to say about the work you do and the challenges we face as an organization.

This fall is no exception.

HSA regional meeting schedule set

HSAs annual fall regional meetings have been scheduled for September and October 2012. Regional meetings are an excellent forum for HSA members to review the issues and activities of the past year, and discuss the opportunities and challenges that lie ahead.

This year, the day-long regional meeting will be followed by a day-long disability management education workshop. The workshop will be relevant for HSA stewards in all sectors, and will cover a range of issues, including sick leaves, LTD, WCB, duty to accommodate, and return to work plans.

Convention 2012

The Report: June 2012 vol.33 num.2

DELEGATES ATTENDING HSAS 41ST ANNUAL CONVENTION rejected proposals to switch to a biennial convention, discussed the challenges of the current bargaining climate and debated solutions to a long-standing problem with a long-term disability trust just over 200 members.

Health Sciences Association opens 41st annual convention

Members of the Health Sciences Association, the union delivering modern health care that represents health sciences professionals who deliver diagnosis, treatment and recovery in BCs hospitals and communities, is meeting this weekend at its 41st annual convention in Vancouver.

Over the course of the next two days members will be debating a number of resolutions as the union adds to and enhances the agenda it has built over the past four decades.

Incorrect information about tax deduction for LTD premiums paid

A recent article in The Report contained incomplete information about tax deductions.
The potential for deducting for LTD premiums only applies if you are on an accepted LTD claim.
A member who is on an accepted LTD claim may be able to claim on their tax returns for LTD premiums they have previously paid. Whether they are eligible to do so, and how far back they can claim, is something HSA recommends you discuss with a financial or tax professional.
