HSA achieves agreement to settle 135 classification grievances

HSA has resolved a long-standing classification dispute with HEABC that involved 135 grievances and affected many more HSA members working in counselling professions. -The settlement agreement provides a continuing, consistent approach to classifying these jobs, which is important for ensuring that health science professionals receive fair compensation for their scope of responsibility" Kathy McLennan, HSA Membership Services Coordinator, said.

Community Social Services: Talks break down in bargaining, strike vote begins next week | UPDATE: meeting dates

Talks broke down yesterday between the provincial government, employers and the ten unions representing BC's 15,000 community social services workers. As a result, there will be a strike vote for all unionized workers in the sector. Outstanding issues include: wages, benefits, sick leave, reimbursable expenses and concessionary demands by the employer, including revisiting improvements gained in the last round of bargaining. 

Psychiatric Nurses: Bargaining update

Negotiators for the Nurses Bargaining Association worked hard to resolve several issues with health employers in bargaining sessions that took place last week (May 28 ... June 1). Bargaining between the Nurses Bargaining Association and the Health Employers Association of BC will resume the last week of June. The issues discussed pertained to casual employees, health authority-wide seniority, scheduling of union time off, and improvements to the Professional Responsibility Form (PRF) process.

Community Health bargaining continues at very slow pace

The Community Bargaining Association (CBA) met last week and over the weekend in Vancouver to exchange and discuss proposals with the Health Employers' Association of British Columbia (HEABC). Last week the two parties discussed issues and exchanged amendments to previously tabled proposals. The CBA tabled counter proposals related to casuals, job postings and classifications. HEABC and CBA tabled and discussed counter proposals to the grievance and arbitration procedures and continued to discuss the scheduling provisions.

We are joining Canada's major environmental organizations, and leading charities, unions, bloggers, and others in darkening our website in defence of two core Canadian values: nature and democracy.

Community Social Services: Monetary proposals tabled... awaiting employer response

The multi-union bargaining committee for community social service workers presented its monetary proposals to the employer during the latest week of bargaining, including wage and benefit demands The employer will table their wage and benefit proposals and respond to unions when bargaining resumes the week of June 4.

A victory for pharmacists

The Report: June 2012 vol.33 num.2 HSA AND ITS PHARMACIST MEMBERS have forced the government to back down on a plan to slash salaries for pharmacists by up to 14 per cent. The plan, announced without warning in January, would have eliminated a market adjustment for pharmacists introduced in 2006 to address chronic issues of recruitment and retention. HSA immediately met with representatives of the pharmacist members and on January 18 invited all pharmacist members to participate in a province-wide telephone town hall meeting.

The Report: June 2012 vol.33 num.2 DELEGATES ATTENDING HSAS 41ST ANNUAL CONVENTION rejected proposals to switch to a biennial convention, discussed the challenges of the current bargaining climate and debated solutions to a long-standing problem with a long-term disability trust just over 200 members.
